[net.pets] cat hair - a novel solution

This is a copy of a letter to the Troy-Bilt rototiller manufacters in
a recent newsletter.

"... I strongly hope that readers of this paper will prevail upon the
good folks at the Troy-Bilt Factory to design and build a Cat Hair Rug Rake
attachment for the PTO Horse model (fancy new tiller).

According to a study by the University of Tehran, cat hair has an
R-factor of 37.5, second only to the finest Canadian goose down. And, as
every cat owner knows, and the study just mentioned confirms, a normal,
healthy adult cat sheds its weight in hair every 37.5 minutes. This hair
typically spreads over the house due to the Brownian movement of air molecules
as well as by convection currents, and settles uniformly on the furniture, the
rugs and the people. A vacuum cleaner or carpet sweeper picks up the hair,
but it picks up all the dirt and dust as well, thereby rendering the cat hair
useless as insulation.

With a Cat Hair Rug Rake attachment, a housewife would simply remove
the tiller attachment, install the Rake by means of the two swing-away bolts,
and drive the Tiller from the garden into the house, where she would run it
quickly over all the carpets, upholstered chairs and any family members who
happened to be napping on the floor. A convenient 37.5 bushel collector
basket (large enough for a typical two-cat household if it is used at one-week
intervals) would catch the cat hair and could easily be emptied into a storage
bin.

The cat hair thus collected could be blown into walls and attics, or
spun into yarn and knitted or woven into fabric for sweaters. Since the Cat
Hair Rug Rake attachment would pick up only the cat hair and not the dirt and
dust, its use could become a regular part of the housecleaning routine,
immediatly before vacuuming. ....."
