My 12-year-old German Shepherd was going from bad to worse with hip dysplasia and arthritis about a year ago. I started megavitamin therapy and there was marked improvement. Six months ago I went to a veterinarian who practices acupuncture and he implanted two tiny gold beads near the affected hip joints. This has improved strength and mobility about 30-40%. She also had electric needle treatment (3) to her front legs for the arthritis. This didn't seem to do much. Talked to my pharmacist and he told me about a new human drug for arthritis called Feldene. He called my vet and I started giving Heidi the lowest dose, once daily. It is *not* a cortisone and has no side effects in this dosage. You would not believe the result! In two days she was prancing around like a young dog. She is still 100% improved after starting the Feldene about 2 months ago. And this is the time of year weather-wise that is bad for arthritis. Just wanted everyone out there to know about this remarkable drug and the other things we've tried. If anyone wants to know the megavitamin program I have her on, just write to me. Also, a fine book on a holistic approach to dog and cat care and feeding is "Natural Health for Dogs & Cats" by Richard H. Pitcairn. It has recipes for making your own pet food and suggested vitamin and mineral, oil, etc. supplements for their good health. After you read the chapter on how commercial pet foods are made you'll consider making your own. Emmy Lou tektronix!mdp!emmyl
