 Subj: RE: cystitis

My female cat also had a cystits problem. My wife had a coupon
for some dry cat food, the brand escapes me. We figured we'd try the food
on our 1 year old female. A week or so later the cat started peeing any and
every where. I thought the cat was just being rebelious and when I'd find
her peeing on the floor I'd scold her and put her in the litter box. This went
on for another 2 or 3 days until I found she was crying when I picked her
up, this was about the time I started noticing blood in her urine, what there
was of it. So we took her to the vet. The vet told us it was the dry cat food
she said some cats just cant tolerate the dry food she also told us that it
was important for the cat to drink as much water as possible. When I told the
vet that the cat wouldn't drink much water she told me to substitute cranberry
or cranapple or crangrape juice and much to my surprise the cat loved it.
This along with no dry food seemed to cure the problem.
But, if the cat ever touched dry food again (which happened a couple of times)
the problem would start right up again. My wife and I didn't want to pay the
price of a full diet of canned food, so we shopped
around numerous pet stores trying to find a sloution to our problem. We
finally found a pet store we thought we could trust and told the owner about
the problem with the dry food and she gave us a sample package of this dry food
called Tamiami, well the cat loved it and the problem of cystitis didn't come
back using this food. We still give the cat canned as well but NO OTHER KIND OF
DRY FOOD, we've also discontinued the cranberry juice and the cat seems to
drink enough water. The food also claims to have a low ash content.

We found the food at Breeder's Pride pet store Rt. 20 west in Marlboro
Mass. You can probably find it in most pet stores. I'd suggest trying a small
sample package first, then if you can use it buy the 10 lb. bags it costs less
 that way. If you can't find it locally you can write to ;
