[I kid you not......] Taken from L.A. Times, May 30, 1984 BRITISH ANIMAL LOVERS PROBE CRUELTY TO WORMS (from Reuters) LISKEARD, England -- Britain's animal defenders have been asked to look into complaints of cruelty to worms in a contest held in this Cornwall village. The "worm coaxing," where people try by various means to lure worms from the earth to be measured, was staged by a local pub to raise money for medical research. "It's just harmless fun," pub owner Ted Ellway said. After receiving the complaint, a spokesman for the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said: "We would prefer it if the worms were left alone. . . . If they are disturbed like this, they should be returned to the earth with a little suffering as possible." ----------EOA---------- -- Brad Brahms usenet: {decvax, ucbvax}!trwrb!trwspp!brahms arpa: Brahms@USC-ECLC
