[net.pets] Send a Ferret to Camp

evans@mhuxt.UUCP (crandall) (05/29/84)

I am planning on taking a 2500 mile flight and want to take my ferret along.
Does anyone have any information about carrying small animals in the cabin, as
opposed to some cargo hold? I have seen people with small kittens in
cat carriers - but this was years in the past.

I am informed by a reliable source that you can put them in a
carrier if the carrier is small enough to put under your seat,
and the carrier is treated as part of your carry-on luggage.
If you want your ferret to survive, do not allow him/her to be
placed in the cargo hold. I have heard that a prize show dog once
died in the cargo hold after being loaded adjacent to a shipment
of dry ice. The dog froze to death.
