x We have a super female german shepard who has one vice--she starts shedding in April, and continues at an increasing rate until about July, finally tapering off to zero by October. We have tried brushing and combing, but nothing seems to hasten or terminate this process. My question/appeal: Is there any way of getting the shedding over quickly? Is there any way of limiting it? We'd like to take the poor animal out with us more, but have limited tolerance for a car full of dog hair, and great clots of said hair whistling about the car at 55 MPH with the windows down. At least at home she can be put outdoors or confined to a few rooms. thanks in advance, sam

I have a malamute who is also a great producer of spurious hairs. I bought my dogs a pickup truck and canopy with screened windows to ride in. The great thing is that you can use it for other things too! I also have sliding windows between the cab and back. It's great for that extra margin of safety when picking up hitchhikers -- one loud bark in their ear when they first climb in and they're quite docile from then on. Oh yeah -- you *can* cut down on the amount of hair to be shed by moving to a warmer climate or keeping your dog inside alot when it's cold. My malamute refuses to sleep inside in all but the coldest Oregon winter nights though. She likes waking up covered by a light layer of snow. Just remember, your human friends probably aren't perfect either... -- Kim -- uucp: {ucbvax,decvax,ihnp4,allegra,uw-beaver,hplabs}!tektronix!tekig1!kimh CSnet: kimh@tek ARPAnet: kimh.tek@csnet-relay US Mail: Kim Hastings, Lab Instruments Engineering, Tektronix, Inc.
