Subject: Moving of cats

Jon,
I have two cats and had the same type of concerns when we moved.
Our first move (had just one cat at this time), we decided to keep the
cat inside the apartment for a couple of days and gave her as much
attention as possible. After letting her out the first day (it was a
weekend and we were around), she was fine to leave out during the day or
anytime she wanted out.
Our second move included 2 cats and was almost a disaster. I forgot
to lock the cats into a room while we were moving our belongings into the
new house. The cats immediately took off and headed for the old apartment
(about 1 mile away). We then kept them in the house for a couple of days
and made sure they got a lot of love. When they did get out of the house,
they stayed around.
There is a 'home remedy'--put butter on the cat's paws. Supposedly
the cat will spend so much time cleaning the paws, it won't have time to
run away! Didn't try it.

Good luck with the move...
