Does anyone know anything about training cats to use the toilet? My cats are fascinated by flushing water; they jump up onto the toilet seat everytime the toilet is flushed. They seem to be good candidates for training to use the toilet.

I have not tried this, but I'm told it can be done. Put Saran wrap across the toilet seat with catnip in the middle. Supposedly they get the idea pretty fast and no longer need the incentive. I would be curious if anyone has any luck with this approach-- it sounds a bit bizarre but maybe after a few more months of that BIG litter box in our TINY apartment I will give it a try... The book called "You Can Train Your Cat" discusses toilet training your animal. Their description sounds feasible, albeit a bit slow. The rest of the book is remarkably good too; from what they say, it seems that the only real obstacle (sp?) to training your cat to do all sorts of things is that the cat generally has more endurance than the person. (except, of course, for the lady who lived next door to me in cleveland). james blasius innp4!ihlpa!dopey *** REPLACE THIS MESSAGE WITH YOUR LINE *** "hey babe, let's go see how many processes we can fork!"

>> Does anyone know anything about training cats to use the >> toilet? I haven't tried it, but I've seen kits advertised that include a special cat toilet "seat" that you put first on top of the litter box and then on top of the toilet. Don't know how you teach 'em to flush, though. > ...Put Saran wrap across the toilet seat with catnip in the middle. Heck, toilet training my cat was a snap.... ....the tough part was teaching him to drop a quarter into a pay toilet coin slot!! --Jeff Shore ihnp4!druri!jhs AT&T-ISL "Where Worlds Collide"

I haven't followed this discussion on toilet training cats too much. But I have a comment. Having a toiet trianed cat means having a toilet let is always open. I mean the door to the bathroom is open and the lid is up. This can be a very bad situation if there are toddlers at home. The number of deaths by toilet drowning is to large to be ignored. Even though my wife wanted to toilet train the cats I would not allow it because we have a new baby. End Comment. -- Robert Connaghan Microprocessor Group AT&T Bell Labs - Holmdel, N.J. houxu!rbc

This may cause a little head scratching for any subsequent occupants, but otherwise,it should solve your problem. > This can be a very bad situation if there are toddlers at home. > The number of deaths by toilet drowning is to large to be ignored. > I greatly prefer cats to small children and will refrain from further comment.
