A new proposal for exotic pets may come into effect. The following is an article from the April 4, 1985 Seattle Times. It is reprinted without permission. Under proposals sent this week to the Seattle City Council, dangerous pets would be outlawed in the city. The animals couldn't be kept and they couldn't be sold. Animal-control officials say the amendments were prompted, in part, by neighborhood outage last summer in Fremont over Lucifer, an escaped python accused of eating a pet cat. But the proposed ban would apply to a broad range of animals, and city officials concede they probably will be in for a beating when the amendments surface at a City Council hearing. A hearing date has not been set. The new law defines dangerous animals as "any animal or insect (including spiders), other than bees ... that is capable of seriously injuring or killing humans, including but not limited to any poisonous animals or insects, any poisonous or constricting reptiles, any carnivore weighing in excess of one pound (except household dogs and cats), corodilians, sharks, moray eels or piranha. Tarantulas, boa constrictors, lion fish, caymans, certain lizards and cat sharks all are popular pets with Seattle residents, but they would bee illegal in the city. -- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- I don't need a disclaimer, because no one is dumb enough to claim me. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Jay T.
