[????] It started when I was younger. I couldn't help it. Everytime we moved I had to give them away. And we arrived at our new location, we HAD to find the local department store. Didn't matter which one. They all had them. Those little 1 to 1 1/2 inch green turtles. With the little plastic islands. Then these were outlawed. Disease or some such other rot (no, I don't a lecture on the this subject). Anyways, to get to a point. I'm looking for people with information on turtles, AND tortoises (yes Virginia there is a difference). I spent my teenage years catching turtles around my hometown. Usually "painted turtles". Occasianlly a snapper. We once caught a snapper whose shell measured 17''. About two years ago I bought two turtles from a pet store. Supposedly one male/ one female. Here's where my questions come in: o Does anyone have any information on "mating turtles" (no jokes please!). I enjoy turtles, but assinine laws ruin this enjoyment. I would like to own some younger, smaller turtles. - Are there certain turtles that are easier? o The law in this state (Mass.), according to the pet store, requires that turtles shells measure minimum 4''. Is this nationwide, or just in my state? Are there any states where you can buy smaller turtles? o What kinds of turtles do people have experience with? o Does any one own a tortoise? I've considered getting one, and want to know what I'd be letting myself in for. Please mail to me, I'll summarize and post (if it seems there is enough response/interest). -Roy J.
