Fish keepers should also beware of the heat as well. I've lost lots of salt-water fish when the temperature got above 90 in the tank. Prolong high temperature has also killed some of the aquarium plants (I'm not entirely sure about this, but the pet store guy thinks it is true). My goldfish get very uncomfortable (at least they seem uncomfortable) when the temperature goes much about 80. There is also some problem with the water supply. When it gets hot and the sun beats down on reservoirs, the algae growth usually goes up. The water guys then add chlorine, and sometimes ammonia to the water to kill the algae and other nasties. Expect to see an increase in chlorine and chloramines in your water. You should treat this water before adding it to your tanks. I've been contemplating getting an air conditioner for the really hot days when the days are in the 90's and the nights are in the 80's. -- ---------------- Marty Sasaki net: sasaki@harvard.{arpa,uucp} Havard University Science Center phone: 617-495-1270 One Oxford Street Cambridge, MA 02138
