[net.pets] mice in the woodpile

How about moving the woodpile so it is not next to the house.

Or do what I did a few years ago when I found a mouse in my
office: get a little cage and keep it as a pet.

Yes, mouse traps DO work, although a bit gruesomely. We had mice in the house
one winter, and four traps did the job quite quickly. I was warned against
using the poison, as supposedly their little bodies swell up after they die,
and decompose wherever they went to die (usually some inaccessible place).

Bait the trap, put it where kids or pets can't get to it (one of our most
successful was behind the fridge), and make sure to attach it to a
stationary object, because if a mouse is not trapped correctly, he will
thrash about for a while.

I know this sounds TERRIBLE, but the little buggers have to be gotten rid of.
After our episode with them, I moved the couch to clean behind it, and found
a LARGE pile of dog food. They had been saving it there.

Good luck,

Sandy

P.S. I've had mice and hamsters as pets, too, but it's different when
they're confined and can be cleaned regularly.
