I don't know much about finches, but I had a problem with one of my McCaws where his feathers would bead up under the skin. The problem was his diet. The vet told me to change his diet to one that included hard boiled eggs (The shell and the egg all crushed up together), about 5 different types of seeds, a varied diet of fruits, and sunflower seeds. I don't know if this will help your finch but it helped my McCaw.
