My thanks to those of you who responded to my plea for help with Motley. The gist of the messages I got was (1) with luck, she'll outgrow it; (2) until then, keep the sandbox clean and try to train her as best I can; (3) if such behavior appears in a cat which previously had no box training problems, check with a vet as it may be a symptom of a medical problem. As it turns out, (2) seems to have been Mot's and my problem; I have been meticulously keeping the box immaculate for nearly a week now and so far have found no kitty pee where it oughtn't be. Saturday when I put in fresh litter she immediately pissed in it!--and shat, and covered both up!! It takes so little, sometimes, to make a parent happy--the covering turned out to be a fluke, but I am still pleased that SOME progress was made. Of course, now that this crisis is over, she has discovered that she can open the hall closet, a wonderful Enclosed Space to Be In. And Rattlesnake has found that exploring the kitchen counter while we're out can be lots of fun . . . sigh. --pH /* * "Of couwse. Evewyt'ing is a cat toy. Dammit." */
