From: Frank J. Wancho <0@SIMTEL20.ARPA> First, to clarify a possible misunderstanding about what is going to happen after 4 October, when the permanent split of the net will occur: your FTP access from an ARPANET host to this MILNET host will be no different than it has been, and was during the split test days earlier this month. The Magic Day is April '84, when access will then become enforced according to published guidelines, modified by exception requests. Rather than having each site whose users desire access via FTP to apply for an exception, I will file a generic request on behalf of all the ARPANET sites. Since it appears that FTP will not permit wild-cards in directory names, I have now created MICRO:<CPM>CPM.DIRLST and MICRO:<MC>MC.DIRLST. MICRO:<SIGM>SIGM.DIRLST and MICRO:<CPMUG>CPMUG.DIRLST are to follow. Right now, I have not found a way to permit receiving files via ANONYMOUS FTP, and keep such files protected. So, send Keith or myself a message after you have opened your file's protection - 775252 will do, and one of us will FTP from your directory. --Frank
