[invoke general personal/employer disclaimer] [invoke general personal-product connection disclaimer] Electralogics, a Canadian outfit, makes a RAMdisk which they call a QUASI-DISK. I ordered two a while back. This is an S-100 board which appears to be of good to excellent quality. The documentation provided is excellent. Integration into an existing system is easier than with other similar products I've played with. The first thing I did was pitch out all the 64k drams on the board, and replace them with 256k drams obtained from the quasi-junk bin of a local manufacturer of these parts. [All done legally, I hasten to add.] 'STAT F:' now gave * 2014K * free space. Neat! (Only one dipswitch setting to change on QUASIDISK to accomplish this.) Then it looked like one board died. I swapped ICs, etc. with the (supposedly) working board. . . Long story, shortened: I sent both boards back to Electralogics. They were !extremely! helpful & accomodating. Several long distance phone calls and much investigation by them - they couldn't find anything wrong. They sent two boards back to me; one of my old ones, and a brand new board because there was a whisper of a problem during the one week reburn of the other board. More long story shortened: I've got an old system, EXT SLAVE CLEAR not sourced anywhere - a flaky IC input on another board dragged that line low, causing QUASI-DISK not to work. Now all is well, QUASI-DISK works great. Note that it never was their problem. Summary: terrific product; superb customer support - a class outfit. Also the price is very reasonable. dave munro .....ihnp4!aluxp!clpg PS: no, sorry, you can't have the 64ks I pitched out. PPS: no, I absolutely cannot/willnot get you some 256ks to play with.
