[net.micro.cpm] Dobbs screen editor

werner@ut-ngp.UUCP (cskl503) (06/15/84)

Keith,
and anyone else considering posting large files to net.micro.cpm

PLEASE DO NOT DO SO !!!!

all messages are automatically "gatewayed" to the ARPANET-group
INFO-CPM which many users receive as mail - this would generate
significant mail-traffic on ARPA, and also overflow the mail-file
	of many users.

Large files should be posted to net.sources, and a short notice to
net.micro and/or net.micro.cpm. If anyone on the ARPANET then requests
access to the file, a single copy can be created on any ARPA-site
and made available for FTP to the whole community.

	FTP = File Transfer Program

P.S.:	the same caveat may apply to other groups, like net.micro, etc.
I hope, that the "List-of-Lists" and "Active News Groups" messages
contain the information indicating which groups are gatewayed
automatically and without moderator screening the messages.
If not, it may be worth adding such info.

Your public servant (hope I got the details right)

O.K. guys, this is getting ridiculous!!
I've been a bit on the popular side since I made my offer of the
CPM screen editor to the world so wot I propose to do is split the
sources up into 3 or 4 shar's next week sometime and post them
to either,
	1) net.micro.cpm
	2) net.sources
If I post to net.micro.cpm it is bound to get to all the right
people who saw my offer. However it is a source (albeit not a UNIX
source) and most of the biggish stuff does generally go on
net.sources. It is probably true that more systems subscribe to
net.sources than to net.micro.cpm and so I will be generating
more traffic (and bigger phone bills) by doing this, probably
leaving myself wide open for receiving abuse from parties who
are not interested in the thing. However, I AM going to post
it to somewhere next week and I personally favour net.micro.cpm.

Doing this is obviously easier for me as I will not have the
headache of trying to remember who's been sent what, when and how
many times each message has been returned from that pigs ear of
a mail gateway known as UKC. I have tried to reply to all 20 of you
that requested the editor but have had many replies returned
to me and I've got bored trying to keep track of wots gone where.
If I tried to post the editor in this way all hell would break lose!!
Anyway, unless I have any violent objections to the editor
being posted to the cpm news group it will be on it's way to you
in about a week.
		Thank you for your indulgence,
			Keith B.

P.S. Anybody who doesn't receive it in a reasonable length of time
can mail me and I'll see if I can sort them out.
