Hi. I've got a *new* Kaypro II. The one with double density
single sided drives. Well, it turns out that Kaypro
goofed and provided me with double sided drives. Great!
But, without a double sided rom (format program also), the
drives can only be used as single sided. Does anyone
out there know of the patches that need to be made to the
BIOS and format to allow double sided? Or, does anyone
out there know of a place to buy a rom, at a reasonable price?

Please keep in mind that this is a *new* verison Kaypro. It
has the same motherboard as the Kaypro 10's. I know that
there are roms available to convert to double sided for the
older Kaypro's. Can anyone help??? I hate to either
disassemble the BIOS and format program or not use double
sided. Thanks in advance, Jim.

Let me see if I understand this......

I have a new Kaypro 2X; it has the funny phonejack-like socket in the center
of the back. (I say phone-like because a standard phone plug doesn't fit in
it.) According to Mr. Hamby, this is connected to some modem (I think). Is
this true? How do I get at it from a program? And what about Naomi?

Kaypro Rom upgrade... look in Micro Cornucopia... for the 'PRO-8'
replacement rom. Sorry, but the newest kaypro board is not the
same as the kaypro 10. Kaypro is switching to basically 2 board types.
The non-K10 systems have the same board, at different levels of
population. (They all have capabilities to be a K4/84!! with clock
and modem.) The K10 board has been around as the same with some
rev levels, but same basic layout since the introduction of the Kaypro
10. Actually, having the new board is an advantage... look
on the back of the unit... you should have an unmarked Rj-11
(phone connector) socket in the middle-right of the back (looking
from front of system)... that is where the modem goes... If it is
a Kaypro 10 board, it will have 2 of those sockets next to each
other... on the left-most side... one is kayboard and the other is
for an un-supported light pen interface... but it does not
have the other 'modem' socket...
  hope this helped
