The program you describe is what the "dired" routine in Emacs should have done, but never did. i have a stand-alone version that meets most of your specs running under VAX/VMS. It would require a few changes to the routines that parse the directory files, but could be made to run under Unix. i was thinking of building Xlisp into it, so users could write their own filters, etc. It is/was a fun project, but i find that as long as i can wildcard the system's copy, move,delete, and type commands, it is faster to work without the Diredit program. -neville CSnet: newman@umass
