W8SDZ@SIMTEL20.ARPA (Keith Petersen) (08/13/85)
Thanks for sending the msg intended to answer my question....it was written poorly enough, though, that my main question (compatability w/ versions not incorporating the extension) remained unanswered. A seperate message that you later sent to info-cpm in general (as well as modem7), HOFFGOOD.TXT, cleared this up. Thanks for your help. In HOFFGOOD.TXT, they ask for help w/ the merge, and give phone #...does this person have an arpa address? if so, could you send it to me? Thanks again, -Richard Hartman max.hartman@ames-vmsb That person is not on the net. However, the various versions of XMDM (XMODEM) have been merged and are now available as: Filename Type Bytes CRC Directory MICRO:<CPM.RCPM> XMDM116.LBR.1 BINARY 99200 D27AH The various versions ARE compatible with MODEM2, MODEM7, MODM700, MEX, YMODEM (YAM), etc. However, the receiving end if assembled to use Hoff's "C" pause "K" approach may cause the sender to time out one or two times, making some people think the protocol is broken. This only happens on the first record - after that the receiving end sends ACK/NAK as the case may be. --Keith
