Ahem...I realize Kate Bush creates very fine music, and that the Dead do likewise, but there is a point where conversation should move on... There IS a group called net.music.gdead..(or something of that nature.) Someone stated earlier that they enjoyed the new Rush album no end... I think it's better than signals, but it's still disappointing next to 2112, A Farewell to Kings, and Hemispheres. (Can 'Big Money' stand up next to 'Xanadu?' I heard Allan Holdsworth for the first time...he's a very good guitarist. Would that I could play half as well... As for those putting down Madonna...Sure, the music's drivel, but that's what it's supposed to sound like. Safe, sellable AM fluff. She has the image and the bank account to prove that properly-packaged anything sells. I'm more interested in learning about new progressive stuff than hearing Kate Bush's hat size...the net introduced me to Holdsworth, and I'd appreciate it if some other people could point out other musicians and why they enjoy listening to them, rather than discussing why every member of Twisted Sister should be shot. I enjoy progressive rock, blues, and blues-based rock. Anyone have any buried treasures to recommend? '2112', 'A Fare- well to Kings', and 'Hemispheres' were from the older-middle days of long mood pieces (more applicable to the latter two). Their emphasis lately has been more towards technically oriented music, and is trying to create a different mood. Actually, to tell the truth, I prefer the older stuff myself - I still think 'Rush' and 'Fly By Night' are two of their best overall albums for pure listening enjoyment. Sure, the style is a little rough on 'Rush', but those two albums have the best up-beat rock-n-roll style, and few albums by *any* other artist are as good for those commutes on the local '20 mile X 4 lane parking lot' (Rt. 495) {Personal opinion - no flames} The new album does have some good parts, and I am still listening to it to get more of the nuances (but I liked it the first time, I just like it *more* each successive time). Check out 'Territories', and the song about the bomb (the name escapes me). 'Big Money' was ok, but got *way* too much airplay in this area. In any event, they're coming here on December 16th, and I've got floor seats (it was worth the camp). I'll post a review then. david P.S. For those locals, WIYY (98 Rock) is having a Rush phone interview tonight (11/18) at 11:30.
