Although I was not old enough to appreciate Hendrix while he was living I think saying he was one of several innovators of the late sixties is quite an understatement. Hendrix was doing what people like Beck, Clapton and Page never dreamed of yet. He took feedback and made it into an art form. Hendrix was the innovator of combining Rhythm and Lead guitar together. If you listen to songs like Little Wing his mastery of combining lead and rhythm guitar together is evident. Also if you listen to All Along The Watchtower you will hear probably some of the best examples of note bending techniques ever recorded. Sure, if you look back at Hendrix now he doesn't seem to be that stupendous technically but for his time he was light years ahead. ( And for those of you who are going to get on my case for making these comparisons w/o seeing Hendrix I have a guitar teacher who saw him five times and as to the credibility of my Guitar teacher he's the main guitarist on call to Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia) And as far as Prince vs. Hendrix I don't much see the comparison. I am not a Prince fan and I never will be but I must say he does have a very good command of his instrument. But as far as innovation? C'mon! If you want to compare Hendrix's style and technique to someone try Stevie Ray Vaughan. I've seen him live twice and I think he's about as good a comparison to Hendrix as you'll ever get (Please no hate mail from Robin Trower Fans) -- Paul Kirsch St. Joseph's Univ. {allegra | astrovax | bpa | burdvax}!sjuvax!7995pk13 Where do birds go when it rains ? ================================================================================
