Cerebus #50 is rapidly approaching and what's it gonna be, folks? I think that there is going to have to be a change of locale or there will be one skinned aardvard hanging in Iest. Can you believe the way Cerebus slapped/hit Jaka. Pleased I am not, this bunny-suited hitler is getting ready to bite the big one. Issue 48 contained Dave Sim's best artwork to date. I think that page 15 ranks right up there with any b&w page you want to call great. Buy bonds, beat the Hsiffies - Sam Hughes

Yes, I can believe the way he hit Jaka. His personality has changed a *lot* as a result of his time in High Society (the basic greed didn't change, but he now sees there are better ways to get rich than to rip off a temple at swordpoint). Remember his response to her asking "And would you still kill a yak for my supper, or would that also be bad for business?" Although note the attention paid to him unwrapping his sword at the end of 36. He didn't really do much with the sword after, however... I gots NO idea where things are going. I suspect that High Society has had their fun, and now that they see that he's not just their puppet and that he's making Iest even more bankrupt with no payoff I suspect his days are numbered. Perhaps it's Rogue Warrior time for the-killer-in-a-bunny-suit. Guy Harris RLG Corporation {seismo,mcnc,we13}!rlgvax!guy

Please, please, let's get out of high society! The artwork has continued to improve, and the plotting is well tuned, and it's still one of the very best, but I'm getting SICK AND TIRED of Iest. Has Dave has HIS fun yet? or must he make something bankrupt also? (refer to Guy's note). ((change 2nd "has" in prev line to "had")) Nevertheless, I did like the last vote issue, even if Cerebus did do a lot of puffing for an old now fighter... It's obvious. Cerebus will be flayed alive and it will turn out that he actually IS a kid in a bunny suit. Peter da Silva The Mad Australian (...!fortune!wdl1!jrb)

Indeed Dave has had his fun, and will be leaving "High Society" after issue 50 (or that is what he promised us at a meeting in Silver Spring on the famous AMERICAN TOUR. Why no raves for Duke Leonardi? That was a wonderful touch. I look forward to Lord Arturo (or Adolfo, depending on what you call him, who you ask, oh ye faithless Marx Brother's fans!) in the future, as I would only trust Sim to handle it properly. OZ

From: Mike Ciaraldi <ciaraldi> I don't want to spoil this, so a few comments only: Despite the surprise ending of #49, we all really knew High Society would end in this issue, didn't we? Best points: Cerebus' farewell to the Regency Elf (have we EVER seen him cry before?). Cerebus' comment on Jaka and Astoria's rejoinder. Unresolved question: The bird statue everyone has been looking for--the last we heard of it, it had been sent off as ransom for Cerebus, in lieu of money, right? If it's so valuable, why would they do something like that? Looking forwasrd to 250 more issues, and maybe someday finding out where Cerebus keeps his sword when it is not in his hand.....
