[net.comics] John Byrne, FF, Alpha Flight

disc@houxz.UUCP (08/12/83)

What do all of you out there think of John Byrne's work on
the Fantastic Four and (more recently) Alpha Flight?
I find his FF stories very good plotwise, although the dialogue
is somewhat wordy.

But where else can you find such a plethora of guest stars and good
characterization among all that action--over the last few years we've
had Doc Doom, Galactus, Terrax, Nova, pseudo X-Men, the Negative Zone,
Shi'ar (or haven't you guessed where Reed disappeared to...don't forget
Lilandra holds him responsible for any destruction by Galactus, and
HE just trashed the Skrull throneworld!), Anihillus, Skrull-cows,
Sub-Mariner, etc., etc.....

JB's also done a good job crossing over to other Marvel titles, such as
the above mentioned AF and Avengers, although too much of a good thing...

I guess this is beginning to sound like the kind of LoC Marvel would love
to get their hands on, but I've really enjoyed what JB's done storywise,
not to mention his artwork (though I preferred his work with Terry Austin
on X-Men).

Let's hear your comments! We need some life in this newsgroup!
