Does anyone out there in net-land remember those old superhero cartoons that Marvel and DC used to put out? I don't mean the recent Spiderman and Hulk nonsense or that pantywaist Justice League (Superfriends). I'm talking about the old "Superman/Aquaman Hour of Adventure" where they had 10 minute shorts with the likes of Flash, GL, Atom, Hawkman, old (sigh) Teen Titans, and JLA. And what about the Marvel half-hour adventures starring Cap, Hulk, Shellhead, Namor, and a certain beloved Norse Thunder God? I believe a Fantastic Four cartoon existed at this time also. Anyway, it's been at least 10 years since I've seen any of these, and I was wondering if anyone knows whether they can still be found anywhere on TV. Are there any animation festivals where they might be shown or (God forbid) highlighted? Do they show them at Comicons? Are video cassettes available? (You never know. It's better than most of the trash they market nowadays) This came up in a conversation I had with a friend when we were discussing old cartoons (Long Live Clutch Cargo!), and it got me wondering about the fate of these gems. Granted, they weren't the greatest quality story or animation-wise, but some of the voices were classics, and this is the only place some of these heroes appeared outside of the books. Besides, I have a large nostalgia gland... Any help (suggestions or ideas, even) would be welcomed. I am *not* GINO! I am S. J. Berry (Sorry, Gino, couldn't resist) ..!houxz!disc BTL-Holmdel

I have seen reruns of the old Marvel cartoons at one Creation convention I was at. Boy, talk about limited animation!! But still, they are fun. The FF cartoons that were on during the early-mid sixties (the one's w/ the Human Torch not HERBIE) were mostly adapted from the early FF comic books. I also remember the shorts on the Superman/Aquaman hour. In fact, I liked them better than the main stories. I have yet to see reruns of any of these. I believe that at least the Marvel cartoons are availible on video cassette since they were shown that way at at least one convention. You might try calling some conventions or convention organizers and see what they know. I also remember these with a fond nastalga and would love to find copies of these on video cassette (and I don't even own a VCR!!). Good luck. And while we're on the subject, why is it that nowadays the cartoon producers seem to think that a cartoon simply _m_u_s_t have at least one stupid kiddie-poo character to make the show work? I am referring to herbie (FF), the Bat-critter whose name I forget (the more recent Batman cartoons), the pet monkey (Super Friends), etc., ad nauseum. I don't have too much pride to maintain my comic book addiction as an adult, but shows like this would have turned me off during my formative years. I wish they'ed bring back the OLD Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, The impossibles, Birdman, Johnny Quest lineup of yesteryear. -- --Bill Bill Buie Public (919)697-3024 Cornet 8-292-3024
