From: Mike Ciaraldi <ciaraldi> I presume you have read the latest FF where Reed is acquitted on the charge of illegally letting Galactus live. After Uatu the Watcher explains that Galactus is an important part of the overall scheme of the Universe (Multi-Verse? Are there parallel Galactuses (Galacti?)), he points out that Galactus tests civilizations, and that some day he will meet one that has the power to destroy him. Presumably, that is part of the plan of the universe, and proves something about the particular civilization. But Earth humans did have it in their power to destroy the big "G" (that's the point of the trial, after all), and did not exercise it. So, is Reed not guilty of frustrating the plan of the Universe? #R:rochester:-343400:ucbcad:5500002:000:765 ucbcad!kalash Oct 19 09:42:00 1983 My problem with the "Trial of Reed Richards" is that it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Galactus "tests" civilizations. More to the point, he tests civilizations that have a HUGH number of super powered mutants (i.e. have been visited by the Eternals), he eats civilizations without such creatures. If he had visited earth in 1843, there would have been nothing to stop him. If during his first visit the Silver Surfer hadn't turned against him, he would have won. If he hadn't been VERY weak during the last encounter he would have won. I get the distinct impression that Galactus at full strength is the most powerful thing in the Marvel Universe (with the possible exception of Pheonix). I fail utterly to see what it is that he is testing. Joe Kalash

Perhaps part of the "test" that Galactus imposes is that will a race/planet with the power to destroy him actually go through with it? Maybe part of the "Master Plan" is to foster compassion. Thus we may conclude that Earth, with Reed Richards help, has passed. SJBerry houxz!disc

-- I just LOVED that part when Odin comes down, and does his "master race" planetary stuff. I don't think John Byrne did credit to Odin's german accent though -- ( so without further ado ) It iss ze purposse ov Galactuus to teast each ov ze planets, und if zey paz ze test, zey are strengthened. Buut if zey fail, zey fail utterly, and ur eeliminated. Zis makes lebenstraum for ze masster planets, zo zat ze may fuulfil zeir Cozmik Deztiny!!! Zig Heil!! Zig Heil!!!
