>From the new issue:

Raymonde Belmonde: Ah, but who was it that said,
"Time is an illusion, lunchtime doubl so..."
Jeanne-Marie Beaubier (Aurora): I believe it was an alien
who called himself Ford Fairmont. You are widely
     read, Mister Belmonde."

Maybe ne is, but she isn't. It was Ford PREFECT who said
that (Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, p. 21 of the
hardcover, or episode 1 of the radio or TV versions).

Maybe she was thinking of Ford Fairmont, comic-book writer
and creator of The Unhappy F-Men (see E-Man #2 and #3).

Concerning Aurora's reference to "Ford Fairmont":

Perhaps it was a not-so-subtle way for John Byrne to poke fun at
his erstwhile collaborator Chris Claremont (who was ably
caricatured in the E-Man issues mentioned)? Knowing a little
bit about both gentlemen, I would guess that (a) Claremont is
not overly enthusiastic about this caricature; (b) Byrne knows
it and can't resist reminding him; (c) Byrne also figures that
the "expert" reader will catch the fact that two references are
being made at once, and the other readers won't know what's
going on anyway.

Or perhaps the Fairmont is the North American model which
corresponds to the Prefect, and Byrne got carried away with his
"translation." (The whole issue was "translated from the French"!)

I got a message about Jeanne-Marie's blouse
getting unbuttoned, and tried to reply, but the message
was returned as undeliverable, so here are my commnets,
for everyone to read:

Actually, I liked the bit about the unbuttoning blouse,
(and not just because of what it showed!),
because I thought Byrne worked it in fairly well.
We start off with JM in a fairly long skirt, blouse
(with frills) buttoned to the neck, hair pinned up.
Once the action starts, as the conversation progresses,
you see her taking down her hair, removing glasses, etc.
Her whole appearance changes piece by piece.
Finally, in the restaurant, we're down to her wearing only
the blouse (with collar turned under? no more frills),
and tights.
The gradual transformation reminds me (sniff, sniff..)
of old Spirit stories...

See you in the funny pages!

What I liked best about the "transformation", was that Aurora's bust
measurements must have increased almost two-fold. (Compare, if you will,
the preceding picture of her two pages back). Admittedly, she is probably
displaying her body much more openly, but that doesn't come near to the
difference shown. Perhaps she gets the extra tissue from the same "mystic
alternate universe" that supplies Sashquash's extra muscle?? :+]

What I'd like to know is when they're going to dump the Comics Code
insignia and REALLY get into some heavy duty teasing?! Just kidding,
I think....Seriously though, John Byrne sure can draw some beautiful
women, eh?

---In hot pursuit of a cheap
                                        thrill,

                                        C. R. Dobrovolny ;~)

"Burne can sure draw some beautiful women, eh?"

Is it true that Canadian terminals have an
"eh?" key instead of "carriage return"?
