[net.comics] Marvel Secret War

oz@rlgvax.UUCP (THE GREAT AND POWERFUL OZ) (01/09/84)

Well, I just finished the first issue of Marvel Secret War, and feel that I
am the victim of blackmail. My first two comments about this epic, are that
I now understand WHY Jim Shooter has not been writing these past few years.
He has NO aptitude for it. I also wish that they had kept the war secret.
It certainly does not seem to make it as a public war.

So why do I feel like I am the victim of blackmail? Because even though I
am not enjoying this comic, I HAVE to keep buying them. We have all been
warned about the changes that will be taking place as a result of these
comics, so if I intend on keeping in step with the Marvel Universe, then I
have to keep buying this comic.

The first change in the Marvel Universe seems to be that Professor X can't
walk again. In the last issue of X-Men, they show Professor X walking into
the alien sturcture with the rest of them. On the third page of Secret War
there he is in the familar wheel chair. Hey, good job at consistency Jim.
Also, since Galatus threatened the entire world (and rather publicly I might
add) doesn't it seem likely that the super villians might know him? Or were
they all on a ski weekend in Vermont that weekend? Is it normal for our heros
to automatically attack a villian that crawls out of a crashed space ship? I
shall leave the rest of the story (and maybe the Marvel Universe) to you,
for me, I think I prefer the Aardvark/Vanaheim Universe.
