I haven't seen Secret Wars yet, but I bet it will suck. On the larger issue of limited series -- these are a thing which I consider very good indeed, and I am glad that they are doing well. Yes, I know that in a way they are a crass marketing ploy (since everyone likes having low-numbered issues), but they are really the comic equivalent of a novel, more so than the somewhat shorter thing they are calling a graphic novel. The creative freedom is much stronger in limited series (and graphic novels) than in normal serial books. The only thing I don't like about them is the standardized length of four issues, which is actually more restrictive than a normal serial. For instance, I thought that the Jack of Hearts limited series was ridiculously padded. A story should be written to its length, no more, no less. -- Tim Maroney, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill duke!unc!tim (USENET), tim.unc@csnet-relay (ARPA)
