A few brief notes.... Lastest bunch of titles: GOOD: Batman Special by Barr & Golden (good basic plot aided by excellent art), Moon Knight (OK w/ 5 pages of Sienkiewicz doing Crawley), Captain America (Looks like J.D. Matteis may come up with the best Red Skull since Englehart, and background characters good as always... action slows up some, though). VERY GOOD: Badger (guest artist who is not up to previous standards, but gosh, I like the characters (Ham really is such an interesting degenerate)), Neil the Horse ("Making the World Safe for Musical Comedy"). EXCELLENT: American Flagg (Really goes by like a shot... plot streamlined and never lets your mind wander for a second... this is the stepping stone for the rest of the series, and I think this is where we'll see Flagg's patriotism emerge (hopefully in other characters too)... Can Chaykin do a full-color poster of Raul?), and a very good premiere issue of Power Plays. Concept: what if a good segment of the world REALLY got some form of super-powers? All handled with great panache, and I think Mr. Barker, a fellow without powers and a dog mask, may turn out to be the best new character I've seen since Flagg & McCallister premiered... certainly the most original and has some of the best dialogue ("You belong to the Ralph Hinkley Power-of-the-Month club?")... Better buy it now (only $1.50) as the publisher needs cash before getting the next issue out, apparently. Oh, and Secret Wars is poor, though not as bad as the net.bandwagon suggested. Still, no reason to egg Jim Shooter on... don't buy it please. From all indications, the changes are not that spectacular. Let one person on the net buy the last issue an broadcast the results... The New Green Lantern under Wein and Gibbons (didn't he do The Doctor in the Marvel Miniseries?) looks very good, but I've missed the last few issues (I dropped the book like a stick of radium after The DC Cretins took over), and I could use a fill-in. Wha' happened with Ferris and the others? Please broadcast or mail a reply... Lastly, two Marvel ads in various comics.... Is this Power Pack thing supposed to be Marvel's new Kiddie line? Or are we expected to put up with 7-year olds (physically, not just mentally) pulling the old Marvel Schtick of self-analysis ("How can I explain to Aunt May that I got a D in Citizenship because I was out battling Juvenile Delinquent?")? Pfui... Also, for the ad with the members of Alpha Flight looking grim, and the caption "They're in for the battle of their lives. And one of them won't survive it.": Hey, John, how about making it two or three?
