From: Mike Ciaraldi <ciaraldi> Severa; people mentioned that they thought the "Who is Donna Troy ?" issue of NTT was one of the best srories of the year. I liked it too, but what bothered me is that it didn't really tell us who she is. If I remember right, they track down her ADOPTIVE parents, who are still alive, which is all well and good. But all they can find of her natural parents are their graves, or something like that. If you ask "who is somebody", it can mean many things-- what their personality, profession, or beliefs are, what their ethnic background, religion, or nationality is, etc. From the point of view of someone getting married and planning to have children, it may be very important to know their parents' medical histories, e.g. is there history of labor complications, and blood types so you know whether to anticipate immunization-system problems, and so on. Considering that Donna "lost" her parents at such an early age (I mean the people who raised her), it seems to me the "Who Is" question should really have been in terms of her natural parents, and that is not answered at all. Still a good story, though...... Mike Ciaraldi ciaraldi@rochester

Yes, I see your point about Donna not really finding anything about her REAL parents... but I think the idea is that, for her, they are really a type of symbol. She can dig farther into their past if she wishes, but she knows who her mother was. Her adoptive parents can also provide (in comic-world, anyway) all the real love & support she needs. The only thing I could think of when reading this was a potential future issue with i) Donna's mother rising from the grave to tell her who her father is , ii) discovering Terry Long is her brother, iii) finding that her father was Steve Trevor who, in a fit of passion (hard to believe, eh?) impregnated Donna's mother. In other words, let's just let Donna's real Mom lay (Har, har, har, har....)
