So far the responses to my Net.comics reader poll are (at best) just so-so. So please, if you want to respond but just haven't done so yet, don't delay much longer. A posting of the original article follows for those of you who may have missed it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Before I start, let me first say, if anyone has a flame to this idea, please submit it directly to me. Don't bother other people on the net. Now, let's get onto business. I have recently become curios as to how my particular taste in comics matches up with readers on the net, and more precisely, with comic readers in general. So, if anyone else has similar desires, let me now invite you to join into the... ************************** * NET.COMICS READER POLL * ************************** Please send all responses directly to me (preferably by the end of January), and I will post the results as soon as possible. Please answer the following questions with either 1, 2, or 3 answers for each. (The choice of number of answers for each question is yours. The first choice will get 3 points, second 2 points, and third 1 point.) Winners and favorites will be tabulated accordingly. 1. What is your favorite title (of course) 2. Who is your favorite artist. 3. Who is your favortie writer. 4. What is your favorite team / group 5. Who is your favorite male character 6. Who is your favorite female character. Thanks in advance.... Len Armstrong St. Joseph's University ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ P.S. To Rick Wessman : I tried to reply back to you but I had difficulties with my mail reply. (I think it has something to do with one-way paths). Anyway, I did indeed get your results. Thanx

#R:sjuvax:-12800:ecn-ee:24800001:000:1502 ecn-ee!kechkayl Feb 5 02:55:00 1984 Len, I decided to put my vote on the net (I haven't started a good argument in days). Also, to insure a REALLY good argument, I will include my flame vote for the WORST in your categories. Onward: BEST TITLE:Fantastic Four, Thor, Alpha Flight BEST PENCILLER(sp?):John Byrne, Paul Smith, Walt Simonson BEST INKER:Terry Austin (forget the rest) BEST WRITER:Frank Miller, Howard Chaykin, Chris Claremont BEST GROUP:X-Men, Alpha Flight, Fantastic Four BEST MALE CHARACTER:Domenic Fortune (gone, but not forgotten) BEST FEMALE CHARACTER:Starfire And now (heh, heh) for the flames: Worst title:New Mutants (Does anyone really care about Chris Claremont`s adolescent charges?) Worst penciller(at least I`m consistent:Sal Buscema (Sal`s range of artistic talents could fill a book slightly smaller than one of intelligent comments by our dear Prez.) Worst inker:Mike Esposito and Jim Mooney. Two oldies but baddies. Worst writer:Chris Claremont. I have to give Chris this for his X-Babies and the space opera in the X-Men. Worst group:the Outsiders Worst male character:Peter Parker (not Spider-Man!). Old, neurotic Pete has never had one tenth the personality of JJJ. Worst female character:The Winsome(?) Wasp. To quote Elmer Fudd, "Wediculous." There you go. Have fun folks. Prepare to repel flames! Nigel the Voluminous

Very good to include old Dominic.... I'd almost forgotten about him... but what all this brouhaha about the outsidesrs being the worst team? Have you taken a look at the JLA lately? The defenders? GARBAGE!!! Mike Barr is finally taking the Batman where he belongs, and since he is one of the best writers at any "House of Ideas" (sneer), I hardly think you're doing justice to him. I hate to defend Chris Claremont.... there is no argument that he has gone off on some of his views to a bizarre level, but he still has done some things which make his characters atractive. I still find Kurt and Wolverine extremely interesting characters... Rogue also. Yes, my teeth knash occasionally when Claremont puts in one of his cutesy sililoquies (everyone is so damn noble), but hell, this IS a comic book... you're suppose to have noble people... In summary, I don't think Claremont is bad... he's just getting old. I mean, if we're talking REALLY bad scripters, what about Bob Haney.... you ever read any of his B&B stuff.... Argh.
