[net.comics] Anyone know of any good martial arts comics???

armstron@sjuvax.UUCP (02/29/84)

I have recently taken a keen interest in the martial arts. Can
anyone tell me what titles have martial arts related story-lines/undertones ?
I already read Badger, and Whisper, and I am trying to catch up on back
issues of Master of Kung Fu.

P.S.
Has any book in history (except Gold Key's 1967 Green Hornet series)
featured a story(ies) with/about Bruce Lee ?

Marvel published two other martial arts magazines in the
early seventies.

Iron Fist was a regular color comic. The character
moved over to Luke Cage's book after his own was cancelled,
and his supporting cast seems to have taken over as well.

Deadly Hands of Kung Fu was a black and white large-size comic
(same size as Savage Sword of Conan).
It featured stories of Iron Fist, Shang Chi--Master of Kung
Fu, the Sons of the Tiger (Bob Diamond from that group is
now a supporting character in Power Man/Iron fist), and
The White Tiger (he showed up in Spectacular Spider-Man
later, before retiriing).
The two tiger strips featured some of Bill Mantlo's first work.
This mag also had some technical articles on martial arts.

Marvel also published a one-shot black-and-white magazine
about the life of Bruce Lee, I am pretty sure.

Finally, I recommend the old issues of Master of Kung Fu highly
(Moench started stumbling near the end).
Shang Chi premiered in Special Marvel Edition #15
(formerly Sgt. Fury reprnts). The book changed it sname
to The Hands of Shang Chi Master of Kung Fu
(according to the front cover) about 2 issues later.

Hope this helps.
