#N:inmet:18200007:000:1841 inmet!frankr Mar 7 10:48:00 1984 Some idle musings on my most recent batch of comics... DC has begun reprinting the Jack Kirby New Gods stuff. I loved this stuff when it first came out. It will be interesting to see if it is still fun. At least the production values are first rate. I have almost given up on Infinity Inc. This is an expensive book. It has to work proportinately harder. I can hardly tell the characters apart. Unless the characters in this book start developing a little individuality the next issue will probably be my last. Dreadstar 10 was a 30 page fight sequence. Phooey. I think I like Thriller. I can't be sure because the art is soooo bad. Badger 4 wasn't special. I don't like this book very much, but at least it is a little bit different. At least the writing is decent. My vote for worst cover of the month goes to Coyote 5. I think the art in this book is even worse than Thriller. Cerebus. Wonderful. Nexus 6 was fun. Judah is done a little too tongue in cheek for my tastes but he has been growing on me. I am not sure a Nexus/Badger cross over is such a good idea, but I will wait until next issue before passing judgement. The artwork in Doctor Strange was just fine. Paul Smith is good. The last couple of stories have been ok. Someday Strange is going to ber done by a writer that really understands the mystery that surronds magicians and magic. The Teen Titans 43 was fun. TT has been fun for years now. I even like what they are doing with Robin. Robin has always been my favorite. Last but not least, X-men 182 was a really pleasant surprise. The art was only ok (Paul Smith please come back). The story was really nice. It reminded me of all the wonderful stories I read back when Byrne was doing the art. I don't even like Rogue as a charcater. Franklin Reynolds Intermetrics, Inc. {ima, esquire}!inmet!frankr

Speaking of Robin, does anybody remember an interview with Marv Wolfman in which he implied there would be a story in which "Starfire finds out that Dick can't always be the Teen Wonder", with the implication being (well, with my inference being, anyway) that this meant that, well, err, umm, that Dick would experience some, err, umm, *circulatory difficulties* in the region between the navel and the knees? Sounds a bit racy, but I could see it done subtly enough ("Don't worry, Dick, it happens to just about *all* men at some time, even on Tamaran, and I still love you anyway...") not to come across as too silly... Mainstream comics have already dealt very subtly with a gay character (unless I'm *really* misreading DeMatteis, Steve Rogers' friend from his youth (Andrew? Some name beginning with an "A", anyway) and his roommate Michael were supposed to be lovers), so maybe it's time for another taboo to break. Guy Harris {seismo,ihnp4,allegra}!rlgvax!guy
