The original " ... to sooth the savage breast" is the original quotation, often mis-quoted as " ... to sooth the savage beast". It ranks up there with "Alas poor Yorik, I knew him, Horatio" and "I can take it if she can -- play it Sam" as one of the most widely misquoted quotes. I suspect Byrne is just a perfectionist. I talked with Freff recently about D'arc Tangent, and yes he wants it bad. He also had nothing bad to say about Phil. He said the lawyer-battle over the comic was as hard/painful/bad as any custody hearing accompanying a divorce. That seemed like a pretty good metaphore for the situation as it affected Freff at least. It's a real shame they couldn't work out their problems, they're both good people.
