[net.comics] Lots of random comments...

I just started reading a few things recently (it's all the fault of
a good friend of mine...), so I found this group of some interest...

To X-Men readers... (I don't follow it much (although it's good, see
later in article)) My friend just found a $6.95 book that has all
(10 or 12 or so) of the issues of "The Phoenix Story." It's on
real good paper, too. Her feelings were mixed, since she just needed
two more to complete her set (at about $6 each, she said), and this
thing had "de-valued" her collection (this relates to why I don't
do these...).

What I have been following closely is Elfquest (of which I've
only seen one mention). Anyone else out there read it? I've some
theories I'd like to discuss.....

Also, "Distant Soil," (which was sleazily introduced in the middle
EQ 16), also by WaRP graphics people. Just one issue out so far.

There's something relatively new called "Somerset Holmes." The
title character is a woman who loses her memory and has lots of
intriquing things happen to her, and finds she has amazing physical
abilities (although no "super powers" as such).

Of the "wierd-stuff" genre, there's something called "Love and Rockets."
It's hip and glib, but the stuff is pretty good.

Now, for why I don't buy X-MEN....
I see the people who do X-Men as being relatively shameless in what
they will do to create more stories and magazines and sell them.
(I was unimpressed when my friend explained the story behind "Secret
Bores" to me.) I realize that it's tough to come up with new ideas
all the time and that the guys have got to make a living, but JEE-ZUZ.
They make keeping up with things an expensive proposition. It's too
bad, too, because I read a lot of the Phoenix stuff and liked it.
Maybe it's not too bad, since I can't really afford the habit (maybe
I'll just read my friend's stuff :-)). That's sort of why I like
EQ and will get into DS. One story, one story-line, forever: the
way God meant it to be (to paraphrase Falwell...).

P.S. anyone want to talk me into "Camelot 3000?"

Speaking of Somerset Holmes, how many of you have figured out what
Ms. "Holmes"' occupation is? Assuming Mr. Jones is not trying to get
us to make the wrong guess, #3 should give you most, if not all, the clues
you need...

As for Ms. Prior in X-Men, maybe Mr. Claremont just has a Steeleye Span
fetish.

I haven't heard of Steeleye Span in years!
What is their connection with Madeleine Pryor?
