[net.comics] DC Depth

disc@houxz.UUCP (S.BERRY) (04/18/84)

...And if you are not going to objectively review it, then I
advise that you not review it at all.

...You want boring comics, books that aren't worth their price,
then try reading DC's stuff. Everytime I see a DC comic, I want
to regurgitate! Who gives a damn about DC characters? I certainly
don't! They have all the depth of a low-tide in the Dead Sea.

I'm pleased to see that you're so OBJECTIVE about DC. That last
sentence or two is at least as scathing as some of the comments
concerning your own beloved Secret Wars (probably more so). For the
record, I don't think SW is all that bad (I'm beginning to think
there's something on that planet which is causing everyone to act so
contrary to their "normal" natures--that or Shooter doesn't read his
own comics.) I do enjoy seeing so many characters interacting in
one comic, though I'm distressed at the persecution (self-inflicted?)
the X-Men are experiencing.

Back to your original comment about DC: pick up a copy of Teen Titans any
time in the last 3 years? Legion of Super-Heroes? Camelot 3000? Batman?
(How can you objectively say Batman has no depth? He may not always be
a favorite or a big seller, but I've never heard anyone accuse him of
having no depth.)

...Well, to each their own...

<peer pressure made me type this>

Here, here!!! DC is now producing comics that consistantly
outshine those of Marvel. I am very happy with the quality of the new
DC comics. These are as good or better than the best of Marvel. For
characterization and complex continuity, The New Teen Titans rivals The
X-Men/New Mutants which I believe to be the best of Marvel's titles.
I've been a DC fan since way back. About 2/3 of the titles I buy each
month are DC. While some of the titles Marvel puts out are ones that
are worth reading, most aren't; and the average DC title is better than
the average Marvel.

As for Mythadventures, I read it and enjoyed it a lot. Having read
the books, I am somewhat predjudiced. I don't like the Foglio art as much
as the Freas (sp?) covers of the first two boks. I sat down and compared the
comic to the first 4 or so chapters and the adaption is very good. The book
starts slowly, so I encourage everyone to stick with it.

Once again, I promise to post some reviews "Real Soon Now"
(being a college student is tough, not like working in the real world). :-)
