[net.comics] How old is M. Pryor?

dub@pur-phy.UUCP (Dwight U. Bartholomew) (04/13/84)

This may be nothing at all, but...
I recently got hold of a copy of Avengers Annual #10 and
in the early pages we see Spiderwoman going to visit Carol Danvers,
who is recuperating from a fall in an orphanage. Just as Jessica
Drew (Spiderwoman) is entering the front door, a red-headed, little
girl (who is leaving the orphanage) comes up to her and says something
like "Hi there, my name is Madylene Pryor and I'm going home!"
Now, I don't know how often it is that a name gets recycled
in the Marvel universe, but it does seem strange that Madylene Pryor
just happens to be the maiden name of Scott Summer's (alias Cyclops
of the X-men) new wife (who bears an all too striking resemblence (sp?)
to the late Jean Grey (Phoenix)). (No this is not a lisp program!)
O.k., anyone else out there notice this possibly innocent fact
and/or have any ideas as to what it means?

<AHA!  A continuity buff!>

HEY, someone else noticed!!

Yes, indeed, there was a little girl named Maddy Pryor, and she did
show up a few months before the adult character of the same name was
brought out in XMen. THAT was the reason why I was convinced that
Jean Grey managed to reincarnate, as a normal.

Incidentally, who out there has paid attention to the very occasional
character Firebird? A woman of mexican indian background, with the
most Interesting power (another Sunfire type), who, when changing, gets
this Interesting aura of flames shaped like a birdie.

THAT one had me going for a while, until I realized that the reason
was to keep the trademark active on the "bird of flames" imagery.
