[net.comics] Ithacon 9 -- How many comics people DO read net.comics

moriarty@uw-june.UUCP (05/03/84)

Shooter & Wolfman read net.comics articles? Number one, how are they
getting access... do lots of Unix people know many comics people in the
field? Second, why? Just a general facination with computers, or are we
more interesting than the fanzines? (I think we're more interesting than
SOME fanzines, and most Marvel & DC letter columns, but I'm biased).

Few other notes on Ithacon 9 (besides general Thank-you to Mike):

Byrne & Claremont & Austin... if there are any film majors out there wanting
to do documentries for their final thesis project, I'd love to see a record
of this collaboration (bet it'd be something like THIS IS SPINAL TAP).

Thanks for clearing up the Maddy Pryor thing... that could've been messy.
By the way, who is Steeleye Span? (Send mail to me if it isn't of general
interest, thanks).

Thanks again, Mike.

Ok. I guess now that it's time to divulge the details. While Marv Wolfman
does read net.comics, Jim Shooter does not. What happened is that I met
Marv Wolfman at the Creation Convention in DC last January. I found both he
and George Perez to be wonderful people that weren't upset to be "pestered"
by overzealous fans like me. Marv was typing up the plot for Vigilante on
his electric typewriter which I mistook for a portable computer. It turns
out that he owns a computer at home and is hooked up to either Compuserve or
the Source. Well, one thing led to another and I told him about Usenet and
net.comics. He expressed an interest in at least looking at it once. I
told him how to dial in (long distance, yet) to the vax here at U of Md. He
now signs on to read the news once every two weeks or so. He seems to be
still quite a fan at heart and likes to watch the discussions. I suspect
that as soon as he signs on again, he will reply to the open letter that was
sent to him.

I also sent a copy of the entire discussion on Marvel Comics and
Jews to Mark Gruenwald. I met him 3 or 4 yrs ago at another convention. My
guess is that he passed on the comments to Jim Shooter. I only wish that he
had replied to my letter to let me know that he received it.

Perhaps once Marv signs on again he will also respond to Moriarty's
article. One of the problems is that he can't use the full screen editor,
and doesn't know "ed" so he has to mail an article to me (via "mail") and
then I reformat it and post it. It's not bad, but it's not perfect.

	Any more questions?
