[net.comics] Worth Reading

scott@yale-comix.UUCP (Walter Scott) (05/05/84)

The recent call by R. DeBenedictus for "coming out" stories in
net.motss reminded me of a publication that I had been meaning to bring to
the attention of the net. It's an underground comic, simply titled Gay
Comix, published at irregular intervals by Kitchen Sink and available at
any respectable comics shop. Edited by Howard Cruse, a well-known
talent in underground comix, each issue is a collection of stories
written and drawn by gay cartoonists. (The subtitle of the comic is
"Lesbians and Gay Men Put it on Paper!") The topics of the stories vary
from solemn to joyful to hilarious, but they all deal with some aspect
of Being Gay.

I picked up the first issue after reading a favorable review in The
Comics Journal (aside to comics fans who have stopped reading TCJ --
you're making a big mistake; pick it up again and see what you're
missing! But I digress...) and have since then snapped up the second
and third issues as well (I am still waiting for the local shop to get
#4 again). I highly recommend it to anyone, gay or straight. I'd give
the mailing address of the publisher, but all of my issues are being
borrowed right now...
