Jeff: I can't really say that I'll miss THRILLER. I stuck with it for about 4 issues, and *still* couldn't figure out which way was up. What had me most in- trigued about it was why I held out that long before dropping it. Did you tell me about POWER PLAYS? Gee, I must of missed it, or forgot- ten it. Actually, I had seen ads for it all over the place, and was intrigued by it. Couldn't find it anywhere until the other week. I began to wonder whether the ad was a joke. I may write to Kelly and tell him how much I enjoyed the comic. I did buy a second copy to give away when I find some deserving soul who should be turned on to it (I would have bought more, but the store was out of them. By the way, I've *seen* a copy of TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES, albeit only a display copy; the store didn't have any for sale (yet). The innards look good; I'm looking forward to getting a copy. Dwight: I don't recall an Avengers story with Blue Oyster Cult as villains. I wasn't reading that title during the time Shooter was writing it a couple of years ago, but you say you're talking 5 or 6 years back. Let's see, that'd put it 'round about the Korvac/"Michael" storyline. Maybe you're thinking of the Defenders instead. Back when Atlas comics started up, David Anthony Kraft and Rich Buckler created a book for them called DEMON HUNTER, about a Nam vet who ends up joining a secret demon cult. This comic only got one issue out before Atlas folded, and Kraft took the character and concepts, changed them a tad and used them at Marvel in the DEATHLOK strip and in THE DEFENDERS (Demon Hunter became Devil Slayer). One of the conceits of this storyline was that many of the concepts and characters came from BOC songs: the Agents of Fortune, Reaper of Souls, Harvester of Eyes, Vera Gemini, etc. The storyline in the DEFENDERS was called "Xenogenesis". When I get home, I'll look up the issue numbers, in case this is what you were thinking of (it was somewhere around issue #60, I think, which would have been 5-6 years ago). Paul: Galactus imprisoned the Surfer on Earth, because way back when Galactus first came to Earth to eat it, the Surfer defected to our side, and was willing to help the FF fight Galactus to keep him from eating Earth. So the Big G said basicly, "If you like this place so much, you can stay here!" And voila: instant barrier. The barrier is "tuned" to the Surfer, which is why it doesn't affect Firelord, or the FF, or the X-Men, or Thor, etc., etc. [Boy, talk about ancient history!] Now, can anyone figure out how the Surfer got to Titan to attend the last moments of Mar-Vell in Starlin's graphic novel? Don't look at me --- I don't have the answer... Boy, are you in for a treat when you read SECRET WARS #5: a couple of your guesses come true. Those two women are a problem, though, ain't they? Talk about rabbits out of hats. As far as the Hulk holding up the mountain goes, well it was explained at the time that he wasn't really supporting the whole 5x10^9 tons of mountain --- it was supporting itself, and he was just applying leverage at that particular point to prevent the stress from all that weight from turning the part that was above them into rubble. Yeah, I know that's bullshit [a tip of the hat to Brad!], but it *was* an explanation. Brad: OK, shall we agree to disagree about which company is the least literate scientificly? BTW, I have both issues of OMNIVERSE, and I agree that it's a worthwhile zine. There is rumored to be a third issue that will be released Real Soon Now. Of course, if it doesn't come out until after RONIN #6, CAMELOT 3000 #12, SCORPIO ROSE #3, the last installment of "Rocketeer", and the "I Am Coyote" reprint/graphic novel, you won't catch me holding *my* breath (or anyone else's breath, for that matter). ***** I just got the latest week's worth of comics in, so maybe some reviews next time --- jayembee (Jerry Boyajian, DEC Maynard, MA) UUCP: {decvax|ihnp4|allegra|ucbvax|...}!decwrl!dec-rhea!dec-akov68!boyajian ARPA: boyajian%akov68.DEC@DECWRL.ARPA *NOTE CHANGE IN ADDRESSING*
