[net.comics] Rachel's heritage and nominee for most beautiful female in comics

comeford@trivia.DEC (Keith Comeford DTN:381-2246) (05/30/84)

****SPOILER**** If you have not read X-Men 185 you may not want to read this...

Well, with X-Men #185 we see Rachel calling Scott Summers and
hearing the voices of her parents. There are three major possibilities
that I can see to derive Rachel's powers:

  1) Jean Grey survived in the other timeline and Rachel is
the daughter of Jean and Scott
  2) Madelynne(sp?) is a reincarnation due to the PHOENIX
force and thus has some form of yet unseen powers
  3) Madelynne is straight human stock, Rachel's powers derive
     from Scott and his clan.

Theory 1 would only hold true if Jean Grey never went through the transformation
that made her the Phoenix. In a timeline with Phoenix ( particularly a DARK
Phoenix) I see little hope for those who oppose the mutants (Earth May not have
even survived the struggle). I don't remember whether she was referred to as
Marvel Girl in the listings of the X-Men in the first issue (141?) which
involved the time line that Rachel comes from.

Theory 3 is really boring and can probably be ignored due to the fact that
it adds very little to thicken the plot for future issues.

Theory 2 is my favorite. There has always been something fishy about an exact
copy of Jean Grey appearing, not to mention one who survived a flaming crash of
the plane she was flying at exactly the same time that Jean Grey was finishing
herself off on the moon. The exact appearance maybe I could buy, but, as an old
saying goes, once is a coincidence, twice is a conspiracy. On top of this that
would give an almost perfect thing to have happen for issue 200 of the X-Men
(i.e. the return of the Phoenix!).

In a different (and rather ominous) vein, did any of the other readers note
that in this issue (I believe) Storm's picture is missing from the little
corner section on the cover where the faces of the X-men usually are found?

Finally on the contest for most beautiful comic book character I'll
nominate The Cat (AKA Maggie) from Jon Sable. Mike Grell
sure has a vivid imagination (or one heck of a nice live model).
