[net.comics] A Great Package Deal

moriarty@uw-june (Jeff Meyer) (06/06/84)

Holey Moley, troopers! Uncle Moriarty has been cut off from net-news for a
week -- Cornell and Tektronix just won't talk to poor ol' uw-beaver. If you
ask me, I think this is all a result of letting the Rooshins in on the net...

Well, enough politics, its art time (it really is a pretty good load this
time):

MARS #9:
Umm, I don't know... I'll get about 15 issues, read 'em all in one
sitting, and if I survive, I'll praise the comic. Otherwise, I'll turn into
the Flaming Carrot (read origin to get joke).

GRIMJACK #2:
Well, Jerry, I still don't enjoy it much... still a lot of the
"tough guy with heart of Reeses Pieces"... I kept hearing the Spirit and
Ebony breathing down my neck through the whole thing... just not enough
humor to make the cliches enjoyable. Not bad... the art and opening credits
are great. And in the Munsen's bar segment... is that Jim Shooter behind
the counter? (Horrors!).

SUN DEVILS #2:
Good space opera, with cliche plot but nice dialogue and two
interesting characters. Probably the only comic I get for the dialogue
alone... I am not recommending it, but I'd like some feedback...

JON SABLE #16:
OK, you're tired of hearing me say how much I like this; this one is
a must-buy, but just one hint... don't look at the last panel 'till the end.
He He He.

X-MEN #185:
For me, the best X-Men in a while. Lots of character development,
and Forge (nice name, in an era where original names are tough to come up
with) is really interesting. Also, the return of the "Mutants = Outsiders"
bit. The other "Must Buy".
Hey, has Uncle Moriarty really gone and given a good X-Men review?
Well... I've said it once and I'll say it again... Claremont has got TOO
MANY DAMN SUBPLOTS! I find this title has the same problem as the new
Indiana Jones movie... no slow spots which give us a chance to catch up with
the character. And not much X-Men Assemble, either. Oh, and you have to
read Marvel Fanfare to figure out what happened between Mystique and Storm.
At this rate, Claremont is going to have to publish a special 4-part
series at the end of the year to gain my respect: "Marvel X-Men Subplot
Tie-up Annual".

A DISTANT SOIL #2:
Worth the money, but the guy on the cover doesn't appear ANYWHERE
(looks like Michael Morbius on a bad day...).

******************************************************

Say, at the Seattle Film Festival the other night, I was sitting behind a
bunch of radio personalities (a profession which breeds, in general, a
pretty low form of life, apparently) and film distributer people (Warner,
Universal, etc.). In between discussions of freebase parties and what W.D.
did to a yacht hocked up on heroin, Wild Turkey, and ginger ale, someone
brought up the X-Men movie (hey, even trendy people read it!) as being big
budget. They also said (SCOOP! SCOOP!) Wolverine is going to be played by:
		David Carradine.

Make My Day.

"Those who travel with him.... must be crazy."
