[net.comics] Elfquest #19

afo@pucc-k (sefton) (06/12/84)

Well, it looks like at least some of the group will make it to the castle.
However, as usual, we've been left with a few cliffhangers:
		1. What happened back at the camp? Will the tribe/pack
make it to the castle to find all the children
murdered? And who is 'sack of bones'?

		2. What will happen after the elves get to the castle?
Will there be any difference between true elf and
the Wolfriders? And how about the group left back
in the desert? Are they going to leave Woodlock,
Dart et al there to wonder what happened to them?

		3. What is Leetah so ashamed about? Is it that she was
able to "bring back" One-Eye, but not the other?
Or is it that bringing someone 'back from the dead'
physically is not the same as healing? I'd hate to have
it turn out that One-eye is alive but not there (yech!).

Any takers? Or will we all have to wait until fall to find out?

Is therre soom reason that this
posting was not warned as a *SPOILER*

Thanx

Gino;

Sorry, but we here in the wastelands of central Indiana generally
get comics about two weeks later than the rest of the known universe.

Would anyone care to explain the colouration of the All-Star Squadron
annual? Gamma rays? (oops, wrong universe)

If DC is going to collapse *all* the known universes into one, how will
the people living on earth-prime handle it? (you know, one where DC claims
we all live...)

(why, oh why, did I buy that Amethyst annual?)

I am glad to see that I am not the only one who reads Elfquest.

Please forgive any mistakes that may follow for I am new to the net and am
still trying to feel my way around. If something should get lost on the
way please let me know and I will try again.

Now to on the good stuff, my speculations and comments on the story as
answers to questions presented earlier on the net.

  >1. What happened back at the camp? Will the tribe/pack
  > make it to the castle to find all the children
  > murdered? And who is 'sack of bones'?

The first two parts of the question are hard to guess at, all I can
say is I sure hope that Redlance and the children will be ok. As for
'sack-o'-bone' I believe I can guess. If you remember Ekuar's story
in EQ#18 on page 13 he tells of three young rock-shapers who pooled their
powers to gain entry into the High Ones' deserted dwelling. The three
youths were Ekuar and his two friends Osek and Mekda. Once inside they
find that the palace is not deserted but has been taken over by the trolls
who enslave Ekuar, Osek and Mekda and later force them to make the tunnel
that lead to the holt. (At this point you may notice in the lower left-
hand panel on page 13 of EQ#18 that only Ekuar and Osek are shaping the
tunnel but if you look at the troll just to the left and behind the troll
with the whip you will see that this troll is carrying a sack over it's
shoulder. Could this be 'sack-o'-bones' if so could it be Mekda. My
guess is that it is.) Later if you recall Osek escapes during the troll
rebellion and apparently dies and is found by the Wolfriders who mistake
the remains for Rayek. Since Ekuar doesn't mention Mekda ever leaving
or dying this leaves Mekda as 'sack-o'-bones'.

The castle...Hmmm. This place sort of scares me. I get the feeling that
just as the elves get near it the place might just jump off to another
world or being a vessel of great power to the High Ones and since it is known
that the High Ones' powers sometimes went amiss....Well, I just don't want to
think of what might happen along those lines. What I would like to see happen
is that all the information about the High Ones like who they were and where
they came from and why is somehow magicly stored up in the castle and that
via their telepathic abilities they can retrieve and use this information
to send to Woodlock, Dart and the rest and to answer their questions and such.
As for differences between the Wolfriders and 'true' elves I believe this world
has changed all of the elves so much (even the gliders) that if the castle
rejects the Wolfriders somehow it will probably reject the rest.

I have pretty much the same feelings about this one. It could be either
way. But consider this the last thing Vaya sees before dying is the palace
of the High Ones (the castle that everyone is trying to reach). This leads me
to believe that maybe this is where an elf's 'soul' comes to rest. If
this is so, might it be possible by taking One-Eye's and Vaya's bodies to
the palace that their bodies and souls could be reunited?

Just a note... Richard Pini of WARP Graphics will be in Chicago at the
Chicago ComiCon July 6-8 at the Ramada O'Hare near O'Hare Airport.
He usually does his Elfquest slide show at these conventions which is
well worth seeing if you get the chance. If you need more information
send me mail and I'll try to get the answers back to you.
