[net.comics] Why I read comics

psuvm%gms@psuvax1.UUCP (06/22/84)

I learned to read by reading comics (starting in 1959) and have been reading
them on-and-off ever since. I must credit them in part with my interest in
science in general and in astronomy and computers in particular.

I read comics for the same reason that I read science fiction. I find them
to be a thought-provoking means of escape from the mundane problems of
everyday life. I personally prefer comics that embrace somewhat serious
sci-fi themes. (ie, future possibilities, mutants, etc . . .) I also prefer
comics that do not gloss over unfortunate, but realistic, facets of
life, such as death, mental illness, etc.

These are, of course, just my personal observations.
