[net.comics] My Crystal Ball

victorf@houca.UUCP (07/12/84)

Hello comics lovers. Here I am back again for the summer. Enjoy me while
I'm here. I've looked into my trusty crystal ball and now I will tell you
all I know concerning the (near) future of the Marvel Universe:

Amazing Spiderman: His costume is alive, as if you didn't already know. I
think it might contain the 'essence'(whatever that is) of that new Spider-
Woman we met in Secret Wars. I figure Spidey will have to learn some mind
control to keep it from dragging him around the city at night.

Peter Parker: Spidey's in for serious trouble in this title. As any good
reader knows, Spiderman has had trouble doing anything more difficult than
tying his shoe. This is because Felicia's powers are a little more than
she bargained for. Somehow she is inflicting bad luck on her boyfriend and
it's getting worse and worse. This is why the Kingpin wants them to stay
together, so that eventually Spidey gets overwhelmed and falls into a
cement mixer or something. Felicia's gonna die. Too bad.

Iron Man: Either Tony gets the suit back and whips up something new for
Rhodey or he whips something new up for himself.

New Mutants: Karma comes back, Cannonball leaves, Illyana takes over, they
leave Xavier.Yup, that's right. Professor X is too busy beating up bad guys
with the X-MEN to properly teach them. Maybe they'll go over to the Hellfire
Club?

Alpha Flight: Heather takes over as leader of Alpha Flight. Will she become
a super hero, using her late hubby's gear? Even I don't know!

X-Men: Storm gets her powers back in a few months. Xavier takes over(of course)
Kitty comes back hardened from her little adventure with Wolverine(this is
a mini-series that starts this month). Storm finally finds a romantic interest:
Forge. My crystal ball was very hazy on this book. I don't know much else.

Power Man and Iron Fist: Who cares?

I think I'm pretty much on target with these. Any dissenting opinions?

Well, you're half right (though which half I'll leave as an exercise for the
reader.

> Peter Parker: ...Felicia's gonna die. Too bad.

I'll agree with you there. I can't see their relationship going anywhere. And
since she knows Spidey's secret identity, she'll have to kick the proverbial
bucket. I won't agree about the "too bad", though; I don't care much for her.

I'll bet on the former. Perhaps Rhodey can become the new Guardsman. Remember
him, anyone?

Well, Claremont has said that he's toying with the idea of some of the Newties
going to MassAc because Charley's too busy with the X-Men. I think that would
be a mistake. After all, they *do* know that Emma Frost is a sleaze. Why would
they sign up knowingly with the bad guys? Personally, I think the problem of
Charley will come to a head, and he'll end up spendng his time with the Newties
at the price of not leading the X-Men. Unless Scott returns to the group, or
Ororo gets her powers back, it looks like it would be up to Logan to lead them.
But, back to the Newties. I'm sure Karma will be back, but I don't think that
Cannonball will leave.

I've made that prediction myself.

I have the feeling that Forge will be an important part of the X-Men in the
times ahead, but as a serious romantic interest for Storm? Maybe, I really can't
say. Maybe as a leader/mentor, so that Charley can shift his attention back to
the Newties? Interesting possibility. As for Storm getting her powers back, I
don't think so, at least not "in a few months". She'll need to learn magic some-
how, first (As I've said, I'd like to see her become a disciple of Dr. Strange
for a while). Agree about Kitty; she can't help but mature as a result of her
soon to be published escapade in Japan. I'll be optimistic and say that when she
returns, she'll work out her problems with Pyotr.
