For information on Japanese comics, there is a very good article in the Summer 1984 issue of "Comics Collector" by Ardith Carleton. I know Ardith through C/FO (the Cartoon/Fantasy Organization), she has lived in Japan and speaks and reads the language. Her article is an introduction to all the different kinds of manga with examples of popular ones. She visits C/FO friends here in Maryland every few months and has inspired most of the MidAtlantic chapter to start collecting and "reading" manga. Our chapter newsletter, Midlantia, has even started a series of articles on specific comics. Unfortunately I don't know of any translations except the recent work on the Space Cruiser Yamato (Star Blazers) volumes based on the tv series. We manage as best we can with dictionarys. It's a fun way to learn to read Japanese, but slow going, and, as Ardith has said, "the pictures are in English". Mary Anne Espenshade ...seismo!umcp-cs!aplvax!mae
