As far as marketing comics goes, the only way you'll have any luck with the recent stuff (ie 1972 or later), is to have the high demand stuff like Conan #1 or a big name like that. Most dealers, reputable or not, will only offer up to two-thirds of guide price for the suckers. So be prepared for a bit of a loss (unless you bought them all new and have kept them in perfect condition). The demand from the dealership point of view for things later than about 1970 is not too great nowadays to begin with... I tried to sell a complete run of the Avengers and was told in no uncertain terms that there was already a glut of the stuff in dealerships... You could try selling it retail on your own piecemiel like... you'll get better money for your high demand stuff... like i did with the miller dare-devils and that kind of stuff, but then it leaves your collection depleted and thoroughly unattractive to dealers. I hate to say it, but these things really are albatrosses... enjoy them while you have them, because you'll have them for a long time, unless you want to take a loss... the real trade hay-day for comics was in the late 1970's... things have died down since then.... good luck mark modrall mwm dartmouth college.... ps - see you guys in the fall... i'm out of here....

I have accumulated about 350 comic books and about 125 comic magazines, and I have a couple of questions about stategy on selling them. I went to a used-book store and they would give me $0.20 per comic book and were not interested in the comic magazines. I guess the questions I have are: 1) Is that all the comic books are worth? 2) Is there somewhere else (NJ/NY City area) I should try? 3) Are the magazines worth anything? 4) Should I just store them and hope that in 20 years they are worth something? I guess before the questions can be answered, I have to give an overview of what I have. Comic Books: - Conan the Barbarian - issues 28-160 plus 10 before issue 28 - Conan the King, Conan Annuals - 30 books - Red Sonja - all issues of the first two series - Dr. Strange - 55 books - Arak - 1-25 - ROM, Silver Surfer, She Hulk, other miscellaneous fairly recent issues Comic Magazines: - Savage Sword of Conan - 90 issues - Epic - First 20 issues - Marvel Treasury - 6 issues - Assorted Others They are all in reasonable condition except some of the older Conans show some wear. They are all in plastic bags. Thanks in advance for any assistance. Please respond via computer mail to: hound!5123jsm
