Has anyone looked at Steve Englehart's book Coyote,
now in its eigth issue? Since I haven't read much about it on the
net, here's a mini-intro./review...

From the four issues I own (#5-8) this seems to be
an interesting experiment which has been getting really intriguing.
Coyote, the modern reincarnation of an Indian coyote god, is the
archetypal trickster a la Farmer's Kickaha, to name a predecessor
from a related genre. His battle with the Shadow Cabinet, yet
another secret organization bent on controlling the world through
political and economic means, is handled with Englehart's customory
skill, subtlety and humor. It's the humor which distinguishes the
book, and Englehart pokes gentle fun at comic books and popular
culture. James Dean and the Roadrunner appear in #5, and the panda
sequence in #6 is absolutely priceless! The only gripe I have is
the addition since #7 of an inferior backup feature with Ditko art.
It's actually some of the best Ditko I've seen in a long time,
but the title series is so racy and infectious good fun that the
backup is always a total letdown. Give Coyote a try.
