(from: Paul Simmington) To all readers: I wish to bring out an apparent contraversy between myself and a compatriot. It entails the use of the Wraiths as the only danger to Earth. There have been many foes to fall from the heavens to attempt to take over Earth. My concern is between the Brood and the Sisterhood. In my opinion, it appears that the Brood was more threatening than the Wraiths could ever be. I base this on five points: 1) Higher intelligence 2) Superior technology 3) Less violence 4) Character development THe Brood has obviously higher technology; having (living) craft with the capability of "warp" drive. Also their weapons are far more developed than magical chants. Secondly, to have "warp" drive, they had to be able to adapt alien technology. Their aggresive nature also helped in developing and refining their environment and demonstrates their intelligence. Another vital point is that the Brood, when shown, was not really violent. Of course, there are scenes that show their barbaric nature, but they are less violent than one episode of Rom. The brood have the ability to return, making Earth and the X-men pay for their previous defeat. The fourth point which distinguishes the Brood as more superior is the character development that takes place all around them. An example is Storm's role. She was taken out into space and feared that the "Goddess" had forsaken her. That began the steps towards the new Storm. Colossus was different; he realized that he was dumb. The self-doubt began to plague him (as in a later time, when he was battling the Juggernaut and got no aid from Wolverine or Nightcrawler.) Wolverine showed development, for he was willing to kill the X-men rather than see them become a part of the Brood. The final point is that the Brood had limited enemies. Basically they had the X-men (espacially after Colossus was hurt.) The Starjammers entered the scenes later, but then left for the open skies and the vacuum of space (and the Sh'iar empire.) (Of course, the Brood's most effective enemy is Binary (Carol Danvers, whose powers rival a "herald's".) Well, I have explained the five different points that separate the Brood fromthe Wraiths. I would be interested in other reader's points of view. Send flames...I love'em. Actually, I think the modern trend is that ANY alien who does something gross to you (suck your brains out, lay eggs in your liver, etc.) is a major threat. Makes you miss the Kree; all they did was land soldiers with ray guns, and maybe take the freshest meat at the local Safeway. "Let's show this prehistoric bitch how we do things downtown!"
